Badisa AGM 2013

I had the privaledge of photographing the Badisa AGM this week. Badisa is a non profit organization and they do amazing work. We also did the video clips for the prize winners which involved interviewing each person and then adding some B roll footage in while they talked. It worked out really great.

The AGM was held at the AGS church in Bellville. The lighting on the stage was quite good and so I used a Canon 7D and Tamron 28 to 75mm F2.8 lens only using ambient light. The stage was lit by a spotlight which was tungsten wile the rest of the hall was dimly lit with florescent lights. Talk about tricky lighting conditions.... The shoot was further complicated by the fact that I had sprained my ankle in the morning... Nevertheless, when the adrenaline kicked in I got the shots despite the pain. I love my job.

Paula & Riaan's Wedding

  • Picture

I love wedding photography. It encapsulates every aspect of photography, and that excites me. When you shoot a wedding, you are using macro, street, architecture, event, fashion, portrait, nature and  documentary styles and you are doing it on the fly. The adrenaline rush is something else. The rewards for me are not about the money, but about the image.... If I look at an image that I have created and I go "wow", then I  know that I have done my job well... There are no excuses in wedding photography. The venue sucks.... make a plan, deal with it. The light is wrong... make another plan, move to a new location, think on your feet, use back lighting. overpower the natural light with flash. Paula and Riaan got married at Bikers church and then moved the reception to Dale's Black Angus Restaurant. After the reception we took the couple to Adderley road for the couples shoot. The light was brilliant and we captured some awesome images....

Self portrait and landscape of Sonstraal lake

Loving the rainy weather that we have been having recently. We moved back to Durbanville area, close to Cobble walk, this month (August) and the house is nice and warm. We have been very busy these last few weeks with family, corporate and school photo and video shoots. Looking forward to this weekend where we have a baby shoot and an Engagement shoot to look forward to....
